The relationship with our farmers is direct, personal, tangible, verifiable and transparent, ensuring tractability of the products.
Apart from this; we uphold our organic integrity by ensuring that the third-party certifier is of repute.
We also take stringent measures to avoid co-mingling at the farm level, in-transit & storage.
Soil health and land management
As part of our organic mandate, our primary focus has always been to improve the fertility and health of the farms associated with the project. From the inception, we have provided subsidized compost as a soil amendment and promoted on-farm composting from vegetation, cow or goat dung.
“Natural” Mg and P as dolomite and rock phosphate are provided in order to facilitate photosynthesis, the growth of roots, to increase the production of female flowers and nuts respectively.
All these initiatives are aimed at improving the soil structure, stability, and the soils’ long-term biological reserves.
We have actively promoted mulching on our farms with weeds, trees, leaves, coconut fronds and coconuts husks and cover cropping as a means of moisture retention, soil conservation, enhancing microbial activity to improve soil health and regulating soil temperature. Our farmers are continuously trained on improving and enriching soil health.
Replanting & Irrigation
We actively promote replanting of aging palms on all our farms by facilitating the issuance of in- house seedlings and by subsidizing purchases from approved nurseries.
We actively encourage our farmers to irrigate as a means of maintaining productivity and managing soil-water stress.
Our company is built on the belief that a business can operate profitably while ensuring sustainability for all its stakeholders.
This belief is embodied in our Fair-Trade mandate, which promises a range of benefits to our workforce. Employees remain our most important resource and to this date, we ensure safe and healthy working conditions, pay fair compensation, provide free medical and afford financial grants to improve living standards.
Our farmers receive fair and stable prices to cover the cost of production and to boost income levels. To regenerate the soil and improve yields we focus on technical support, training, soil fertility initiatives and provide them with interest-free loans for land development, intercropping and irrigation.
With a systematic waste recycle system in place; all waste and by-products of the factory are put to good use as a part of our commitment to the environment. The recycling of waste products also provides for entrepreneurship at the village level. This is done through the selling of our waste and by-products to those who are engaged in the value-adding process thus eliminating intermediaries who seize the full benefit that should be otherwise accorded to the local entrepreneur.
It is also noteworthy that the fair-trade premiums paid by our customers are directed to large and worthy community development projects in education, healthcare, and infrastructure under the supervision of a dedicated committee. This is the essence of our business, the belief that we must not leave anyone behind.
